Sacramento River Fishing

As winter rains begin to subside and long spring days usher in the warmth of summer, striped bass begin their spawning run up the Sacramento River. It's starts with a trickle of fish in late March and by mid April has built to frenzy with huge numbers of fish flooding upriver. When the bite's on it's not at all uncommon to land 50, 60, even 70 fish per boat.

While striped bass are willing biters on a variety of methods including ripbaits, plastics and topwaters, drifting live minnows is the surest tactic. The arm wrenching, rod in hand bites and the fast action make for an exciting fishing experience. The average fish run between 4 and 10 pounds with some monsters caught each year over the 30 pound mark. Fishing out of the Colusa area makes for an easy day trip for people from Redding, Sacramento, Stockton and the Bay Area. In addition, they're great eating.

More and more of our clients our discovering this fantastic Sacramento River striped bass fishery each year. While it's fun for everyone, we highly recommend this trip as a great introduction for families. The fast action is just what it takes to keep kids interested and turn them into life long fishers.
